So recently, my YouTube has been flooded with videos from a guy called RuffledRowlit who seemingly uploads a million videos a day on new rumours and possible leaks for Pokemon Sword and Shield. I don't really have an opinion on the guy himself (honestly he seems like a pretty nice YouTuber) but there are some things that keep popping up in all the theories, leaks and rumours that are displayed in said videos, such as armoured Pokemon, a mage evil team, war of the roses, etc. Most of them seem to relate the titles to the game being somewhat medieval in some way and I just wanted to give my thoughts on the issue, backed up with some evidence. As a sidenote, I am not stating that everything said is definitely wrong or definitely true, I'm just expressing my personal thoughts on the subject.
Personally, I believe that theses theories and leaks are digging too deep into the title of Sword and Shield relating to medieval times. Firstly, look at the towns that we've been shown in the trailer and on the map. Almost none of them seem in anyway medieval. The only one to look like it is from medieval times is the town with the dragon headed gate just below the snow mountains. If the game was more focused on telling the old history of England in a new inventive way, there would be more castle looking structures about.
Some theories are saying that the main story will revolve around the rivalry between two houses, similar to the war of the roses, and that it would also involve an evil team made up of 'mages'. Whilst I can see a rivalry between houses developing, a mage team seems a bit too outlandish. All evil teams before haven't had any mysterious powers without having a legendary with them. A lot of this thought seems to come from the fact that it's called sword and shield and set in a UK region, but that doesn't really mean anything. Black and White was set in an American region but wasn't about racial segregation (although I guess it did have hints of slavery throughout the story, mainly with team plasma trying to release all Pokemon but still).
For Pokemon armour, whilst I can see it as a cool concept, I don't think it's going to be in the game. A lot of people seem to think this with their evidence being that the titles relate to knights and armour is left out or simply that 'the leaks said so'. The titles of Pokemon games have never related to the new mechanics of the games BUT ALL have related in some way to the legendary Pokemon of the region, excluding Red, Green and Blue. For example Gold and Silver's legendaries were coloured gold and silver, Ruby Sapphire and Emerald's were all summoned by the corresponding stone, Diamond and Pearl's had a diamond and pearl in their design (Platinum is the outlier here), Black and White's were coloured black and white, X and Y looked like those letters and Sun and Moon looked like a sun and moon. Going by this standard and the artwork provided, the legendaries would revolve someway around a sword and a shield respectively and NOT the main mechanic of the game.
Eeveelutions... it's a given that EVERY generation now has some form of speculation about new eeveelutions (main types that keep popping up seem to be steel and dragon). I think it's possible this generation being the introduction to a new console (first DS games had new ones, first 3DS had a new one) and the fact that gen 8 is an even number (gen 2, 4 and 6 all had new ones). As for what type, it's a bit of a wild card. Heck there could potentially even be an eeveelution based on a new type (although I doubt it).

So these are just my thoughts on the matter. Obviously we won't know what's right until Nintendo officially reveal more information about the game. I'm really excited to see what they can do on the Switch with Pokemon and was extremely happy with the announcement.
